This year’s European Heritage Open Day Theme , “Architectural Heritage: Past Structures, Future Connections,” celebrates how historic buildings, landscapes, and spaces connect our past with the future.
Join us for a short guided walk at 11am with Walled Garden owner James Small, and conservation architect Stephen Villiers, as they share the fascinating story of the Walled Garden and uncover one of Helen’s Bay’s best-kept secrets.
Whether you’re a heritage enthusiast or garden lover, this is a rare opportunity to experience a unique restoration project in progress and to be inspired.
Wander through the garden, where the red brick walls tell stories of Victorian gardeners. Walk past the beautifully restored Gardeners’ Cottages, once home to those who tended this productive 1.5acre garden. Step inside the Glasshouse, where new life is taking root once again. Each corner of this restoration reveals a layer of history and a glimpse of the future, where heritage planting, ecological design, and traditional craftsmanship come together.
Join owners James and Lorraine Small, alongside conservation architect Stephen Villiers, for a guided journey through the garden. Together, they’ll share fascinating stories from the garden’s past, explain the restoration process, and reveal exciting plans for its future that will ensure it thrives for generations to come.
Enjoy tea, coffee and delicious homemade traybakes during your visit. You can even take home a taste of the garden with our homemade jams, chutneys, and award-winning fudge.
Please note: We don’t have Wi-Fi yet so, we recommend bringing cash for purchases to avoid disappointment.
